Supervision
Definition
Laws describe levels of supervision, from direct (the supervisor is on site) to general (the supervisor is available but not present). Assistants and students practice under supervision defined by each state.
How each profession uses it
- Physical therapist assistant
Physical therapist assistants work under the supervision of a physical therapist, with the required level set by each state.
- Athletic trainer
Athletic training laws tie practice to physician direction, often through standing orders or protocols rather than on-site supervision.
